Psychology on Sustainable Society Development

Recently, the situation in this world gets worst and need to be repaired. There are some crucial issues and problems in the world like poverty, water and sanitation, education, etc. So, the countries in the world try to discuss about how to make the world be better and will not destroy in the future. So, some countries that have the same goal to keep the earth and society try to make cooperation and collaboration for planning the better world. In the last 2015, the member of United Nation adopted the Society Development Goals (SDGs) as the agenda to build and make a better world. SDGs are the continuation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). There are 17 aspects that included no poverty; no hunger; good health and well-being; quality education; gender equality; clean water and sanitation; affordable and clean energy; decent work and economic growth; industry; industry, innovation and infrastructure; reduce inequalities, sustainable cities and communities; responsible consumption and production; climate action; life below water; life on land; peace, justice, and strong institution; and the last is partnership for the goals (sustainabledevelopment.un.org). To make SDGs real, all of the stakeholder should be involved.
Indonesia is a developing country. Thus, social issues became one of the important issues. Some of social issues that happened in Indonesia are poverty, low education, low health awareness. The Governance and the society should be involved to make Indonesia be better in the future. Indonesia has been an active participant on the global discussion about sustainable society. Decentralization in Indonesia is the one of the strategies to build a more sustainable society. There are some definitions about sustainable society. But, the point of sustainable society is how to keep and improve the quality of life for humanity, environment, and economic for future generation.  So, everyone has an opportunity to develop in their society. This process to be better can be defined as a sustainable development. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Holzhacker, Wittek, & Woltjer, 2015). It is important to think the condition of future generation. Because when we just focus on our daily life today, we force our resources just for life today, the impact for future generation can be worst. So do social problems. If this problem is left unchecked, it will happen protracted and could potentially become a bigger problem in the future.
Psychology is the science which studies human behavior. Thus, the discussion about social issues are become a popular topic. I tried to associate psychology with society sustainable development. Based on the psychological point of view, changes in human behavior cannot happen instantly. Thus, requires a long process, should be stimulated massively, and offset by the reward and punishment for his behavior. The behavioral change should involve all of society, particularly youth. So, the cooptation of some countries in United Nation to make SDGs is one of the effective ways to start the change in the world.
So, on the application of sustainable society development such as improving education, sustainable cities and communities, and life on land, people need to get reinforcement such as praise, gratitude from the government, and other reinforcement. Reinforcement is given to maintaining good behavior and appropriate. In addition, to eliminate undesirable behavior, hence, need a punishment to give deterrent effect to the perpetrators. When someone makes the case of energy-intensive, wasteful of water, and damage the environment, the person should be given such punishment fined or punished according to his deeds. Parties involved in reward and punishment are stakeholders who are entitled to do so.
The conclusion is sustainable society development is a process to make a better and sustainable society in the future. The developmental aspects in Indonesia are social issues like poverty, education, healthy, and others. Because it need a long time to change human behavior and make it better, SDGs is an effective way of cooptation to make a better world.
